SPIN is an organization for parents to express your views and ideas to people who share your concerns about education, including the teachers and school administrators (who ultimately make the final decisions). Involved parents understand the challenges schools face and become part of the solution. By developing a closer relationship with parents, student achievement improves, and the school develops a positive reputation in the community.
Your involvement in SPIN will also make a difference by supporting school programs, building improvements, and educational events that will address issues such as, teenage sexuality, teen domestic violence, bullies, cliques, alcohol and substance abuse, smoking, school safety and school/community violence. SPIN will also place more attention to nutrition, health, physical fitness and the general well being of our girls.
At the high school level, teens girls are developing a sense of self and independence, but parents still have a strong influence during these years. SPIN’s mission is to strengthen the connection between you, your daughter, and our school and to work within the community to research and acquire resources to support instructional programming and facilitate those positive parent, school and student relationships.
Research studies prove that kids do better when they have the support of their families. Grades are higher; test scores improve; attendance increases; and your daughter has a better chance of enrolling in post-secondary education.
Setting high expectations for achievement and letting your child know you believe in her abilities sets a positive context for growth and achievement.
